Common questions and tips from our work with Levant customers.
- Where do low bed trailers usually crack?
- Common trouble spots are the gooseneck and neck area, the main beams where they change height, crossmembers, and around the suspension hangers and ramps. Overloading, uneven loading and rough roads concentrate stress there. Rust in seams makes it worse. Regular checks of those areas catch cracks while they are small.
- Can trailer frame cracks be welded safely?
- Yes, when the repair is done properly. That means grinding out the crack, welding with the right process for the steel, and adding reinforcement plates where the frame carries the load. Badly rusted or thin sections may need new steel cut in. A good inspection shows how far the damage goes before welding starts.
Tip
Inspect after winter and heavy hauling
Road salt and slush pack into crossmembers and seams all winter. In spring, wash the trailer underneath and look closely at beams, crossmembers, hangers and the deck. Watch for rust bleeding from a weld, which often marks a crack. Fixing a small crack early keeps the trailer safe and the repair simpler.
