Common questions and tips from our work with Levant customers.
- What are signs a hydraulic cylinder needs rebuilding?
- Common signs are oil leaking at the rod end, a cylinder that drifts or sinks under load, jerky or weak movement, and a rod that looks scored, pitted or bent. Leaks waste oil and pull dirt into the system, so the problem tends to get worse. Rebuilding replaces the seals and addresses damage before it spreads.
- Can I just replace the seals myself?
- Seals alone can work if the rod and barrel are smooth and straight. If the rod is scored or bent, or the barrel is scratched, new seals wear out fast and the leak comes back. A full teardown lets each part be checked, so the fix lasts. Keeping everything clean during the job matters as much as the seals.
Tip
Retract and relieve pressure before removal
Before pulling a cylinder, set the attachment on the ground, shut the machine off and relieve system pressure following your equipment manual. Cap the hose ends and ports right away to keep dirt out. Mark which hose goes where. A clean, well-labeled cylinder makes the rebuild and reinstall go smoothly.
