Common questions and tips from our work with Levant customers.
- How do I know my bucket needs a rebuild?
- Look for cracks around the side plates, hinge and ears, a cutting edge worn thin or uneven, a heel worn through, or a bottom that flexes. Loose or worn pin bores also show up as slop in the linkage. If the steel is wearing through in spots, a rebuild before it tears open is usually the better move.
- Is rebuilding a bucket worth it versus buying new?
- Often, yes, when the main shell and mounting are sound and the wear is in the edges, heel and bottom. Replacing those wear areas brings the bucket back without paying for a whole new one. If the shell is cracked in many places or bent out of shape, replacement may make more sense. An inspection settles it.
Tip
Check wear areas at every service
When you grease the machine, take a look at the cutting edge, teeth, side cutters and heel. Wear shows up gradually, and catching it while there is still base steel to weld to keeps the repair simpler. Clean off packed dirt before inspection so cracks are easy to see.
